Zarqawi says the letter is a fake
Al Qaeda is calling the recent unclassified from Al Qaeda's No. 2, Zawahiri a fake.
After reading the letter there is no doubt Al Qaeda would try to disown it. The letter is quite damning.
The Governemnt seems pretty confident that the letter is authentic. However, what makes the letter authentic to me is Zawahiri's reminder that he has published various articles and books on Jihad. Such citations are too hilarious to have been fabricated. They cannot be anything else but the musings of an intellectual terrrorist elitest trying to convince others that he still matters.
UPDATE: Powerline is wondering whether the anti-war liberals will side with Zarqawi on this one. I wonder if our anti-war paleo friends will do the same.
Responding to al Qaeda in Iraq's denial, a spokesman for the U.S. director of national intelligence, John Negroponte, said top officials in the U.S. government are confident the letter is real. The spokesman said the letter was "verified by multiple sources over an extended period of time."
