Betrayed
When expressing my doubts over campaigning for GW in 2000 and 2004, I was met with tight-lipped smiles and nods, whispered words, “Chief Justice Scalia,” and other sweet visions of a right-thinking Supreme Court.
Today, following two Supreme Justice picks from W, we could be looking at a static, or even a slightly leftward moving, Court. For all we know.
What we do know is that Harriet Miers contributed to the DNC and Al Gore, and that she’s being praised by Sen. Harry Reid.
Her defenders can only say, "She's probably not that bad. I mean, she's a CHRISTIAN." So is Jesse Jackson. One thing is fairly certain: she's not the Scalia-Thomas clone we were promised.
There was no need to put forth anyone but a pure, literal constitutionalist. Anyone free of scandal could have been confirmed.
We were whispered sweet promises in the dusky hours. We put out. Now, in the harsh light of the morning, it appears we have been betrayed.

How can we be sure this is true? We don't have enough information about what is going on at the Senate. Blame it on your RINO Senators.
There is no doubt Miers is a gamble. But, it seems that all Supreme Court appointees are gambles.
We can be sure no more than we can be sure our monetary system will be good in 20 years. Yet we still save for retirement.
There are now rumblings that Miers won't be confirmed.
Maybe there's something to the gambit theory after all.
Maybe Bush will withdraw the nominee.
